Hatch release

I have a base '01 Jimmy 2DR, I do not have a hatch release button and have to get out and use the key to open it. Today I removed the cover on the dash where the button belongs, and noticed it had some wiring attached to the cover. Can someone tell me what all I need to get to have a working hatch release. Also does the wiring go to the tailgate?

Re: Hatch release

its all there dude...you just may have to have the BCM programmed for the hatch release.

GM only makes one wiring harness for a model. if you dont have the option, the wiring is still there, but the fuses, relays, switches, and programming is not.

done this before, for example: 2003 silverado, wants factory fog lights, but did not have it as option. Install fuse, relay, replace headlight switch for correct one, (wiring was there) and Installed fog lamps in bumper (wiring was there too...taped to lower radiator support) No programming was needed though if i remember right.

Re: Hatch release

I just picked up an 03 Blazer and it doesn't have a rear wiper or hatch release. I don't have to use the key if it is unlocked, I just push the button on the tailgate and it opens. I have a wiper/hatch button from a bezel I sold and never sold the switch. I'm gonna try plugging it in this weekend and see if it works.

Re: Hatch release

I'm curious. Where is the hatch release on a 96 Jimmy? I know the panel has two or three ports. I can easily add a button switch. I already have the mechanism to pull on the latch. I assume the wiring is there to plug and play.

Re: Hatch release

I plugged in the wiper/hatch release switch I had lying around last night and it does pop the rear hatch. I put it in but the wiper controls are useless since I don't have one! I may try to find a momentary switch to put in the blank plate and find the trigger wires on the plug that's there. That way I can use the rest of the plate to put other switches on.

If you figure this out, make sure and share with the rest of us! I'm about to take on this same task.
