grease fittings

well hello to all. i am going to grease up all the front end components and the U joints. can the components be over filled or will it just start to goop out once it is full. thanks. and i need ball joints but it is not bad(the reason i say i need new one is it pops ONCE and that is the first time i go out my drive sharply) but i will replace them once i get the money but will greasing them up let me get more time out of them?

thanks again

Re: grease fittings

the grease will prolong the wear inside the joint but I wouldn't hold it off, now that it's allready worn it will wear more.
When I fill my grease fittings I let some of the old grease ooze out so I know new stuff is getting in there. Then wipe off the excess.

Re: grease fittings

If you put the grease in slow enough and wait for the new stuff to ooze then you are doing great. If you give each joint 5 or 6 good pumps of grease at every oil change it should be plenty good enough and the part should last a long time. (5 or 6 pumps will flush out most all old stuff)

Re: grease fittings

it will help from getting worse faster. overgreasing will break the boots and allow the dirt in too though

Re: grease fittings

Dust boots have reliefs for the old grease to come out. They sholdn't break at all.
