I have a 1996 blazer 4x4 and there is fuel leaking out of a drain hole in a plastic cover on the rear of the gas tank. This fuel tank is mounted on the driveres side of the truck. How do you get that plastic cover off? I am sure it is just a small hole by the amount of fuel leaking.
Thanks, Gregg |

Re: Fuel Tank Leak
That plastic cover is a splash shield. There should actally be two of them. One at each end of the tank. Gravel and road debris will get in there as well as water and over time cause the tank to corrode through. The shields are held on with a bolt to the frame rail and also by the tank mounting straps. Once you loosen off the tank straps and take the bolt off the rail, the shields will slide out. Sounds like you are in need of a new tank. Be carefull when you drop the tank as there is a rollover valve near the front that has a vacuum line attatched. The line to the rollover tank is pre formed and a little short so when the tank drops, it can snap the fitting off of the plastic rollover valve.
