Fuel System Problem! Need Help!

I have an '03 Blazer 4x4 with a serious gas problem. Since I've owned the truck it's had a gauge problem with the last 1/4-1/3 of the tank. Never registered the levels properly once the tank got that low. Just went by mileage and never had a problem. Well now I can't even fill the freakin tank.

I can put about 1/2-1 gallon of fuel in before I get fuel sitting at the filler flap. It drains in slowly sometimes or when I shake the truck enough, but still not able to get more than 1.5 gal in it. Been doing this for about a week now and I'm fairly annoyed but can't afford to take it to a shop to get it fixed right now. Anyone have any clues about this one?

I need help on this one ASAP.

Re: Fuel System Problem! Need Help!

Have the computer codes read. You may have an Evaporative Fuel System failure. It sounds like the tank is holding pressure after the cap is open. This sometimes happens when the purge solenoid is running a test on the Evaporative Emissions system while you are trying to fill the tank...it might be as simple as the fuel tank pressure sensor/connector being bad. There is a sensor in the fuel pump bracket that measures in tank pressure and it sends that information to the computer and then it tries to test the system to set a specific Diagnostic Trouble Code.

I have a code for an Evap/Emissions leak (Gross) is that the same beast by a diff name? And what can I do to remedy? I can't afford to fix it right now, poor student status. But can I temp it?

Re: Fuel System Problem! Need Help!

I don't believe there is a temp fix for this...you might check the purge valve electronic connection and see if you remove it whether that will help...that should remove the Purge Solenoid from the circuit so it will not pressurize the tank....I can't guarantee the car will run better. You should check the line from the purge solenoid to the fuel tank then from the tank to the Evap Cannister which should be next to the fuel tank...it is also possible the Evap Canister Filter is wasted. This happens when you top off the tank to often, I always stop fueling after the nozzle clicks off just for this reason. The excess fuel usually ends up in the Evap Canister, then that causes other problems...maybe this is your problem...
