front end wheel bearings

my front end is making a howling sound when going down the highway above 50 or so and it keeps going unless I turn right, it seems to be coming from the drivers side would this most likel;y be the wheel bearing. Also when I turn right going less than 20 mph, it clanks like a ball joint it bad but there not there newer, any ideas if this could be the bearing too.

Re: front end wheel bearings

Without a doubt that is the problem.

You can take off the wheel and see how much play it has by grabbing it with both hands.

Like I said though - it is for utter certiainty the hub bearing assembly.

You're looking at a having to buy a new. I was able to pay a shade under 200 (canadian) for a brand new one.

Both of mine have had to be changed in the front. It's just an extremely weak point with our vehicles.

Re: front end wheel bearings

be careful. mine had all the same symptoms - but had no play. if you pushed or pulled on the wheel when it was jacked up - it was solid. I replaced both wheel bearings anyway. turned out it was a bearing in my front diff.

it totally sucked.
