Factory sunroof?
I bought a 99 4 door Blazer that has all the power options except the sunroof is it possible to put a factory one in the truck if it didn't come with one?Somone told me the roof lines might be different in the inside and the factory blazers also have a rolled edge on the outside roof in the front? Has anyone ever attempted this or have had it done?

Re: Factory sunroof?
IMO would be alot more hassle free to get an aftermarket unit installed.

Re: Factory sunroof?
I think the headliners are different, because the sunroof/moonroof slides backward into it.

Re: Factory sunroof?
you would need the roof panel since when they stamp the steel for the roof the metal curls around the opening...making it sit flush with the roof

Re: Factory sunroof?
I belive the whole roof skin is diff.
You would have to weld in mounts, that would **** up ur paint. So way more work than it seems. |

Re: Factory sunroof?
Here's what you need to install a factory sun/moon roof in your Blazer.
1. entire factory sun/moon roof assy 2. factory short overhead console with sunroof switch 3. roof braces specific to OEM sunroof models 4. OEM drain tubing 5. wiring harness for above 6. sunroof specific headliner 7. misc other bits and pieces (trim, etc) Here's what you'll need to do to install OEM sunroof. 1. remove headliner 2. carefully cut out exact size hole in roof and roll the edges 3. cut away non sunroof roof braces 4. weld in new roof braces 5. weld in supports for bolts (for sunroof assy...it's heavy) 6. install drain lines 7. install new wiring harness 8. bolt in new sunroof assy (this is the easy part) 9. I think you get the point ![]() ASSY NOTE: if you screw up, you'll need to cut the roof off your truck/Blazer and weld in a new one. As others have said, go aftermarket. 100 bucks is a great price for a complete OEM sunroof assy but not if you don't already have one. You can get an aftermarket motorized sunroof installed (with a warranty) for less than $700. You can get a non motorized one installed for less than $400. Or you can buy a ragtop (soft, folding sunroof...coolest thing on the planet) and install it yourself for less than $600. It's not impossible but it's damn tough work. I wanted to install an OEM sunroof in my '96 Jimmy until I realized what a PITA it would be. I was quoted a bit over $2000 (parts and labor) for a quality body shop to install OEM. Best of luck with whatever you choose. |
