Extra Lighting options

First Time post, new member
2nd blazer I own, first was a 92, 4door, 4x4, push bar with 6 inch off-road lights
blazer dual fog/driving lights. 230 000 KM
Sold it for a 2000

2000 Blazer 2-Door, 4x4, 80 000Km
Installed some new Silverstars for the High beams
Highbeams seems to be bright enough, I am higly considering the quad beam mod, for even more bright high beams for sure, when its warm enough to work on the truck

Problem is with the low beams, I live in a rural Area, and I commute 45 mins to work back and forth, bad weather or bad drivers that wont allow me to use my high's
I do have a slight case of color blindness, causing even more issues at night,
So heres the delima, Do I go for the pushbar look again, for the safari bar look,
add just fog lights and the quad beam instead of the driving lights, will that conversion replace the need for driving lights..??

Also, if I do get dual fog/driving lights do you have any brand or pics of them installed...
I don't want to pay 400$ for lights...

Oh and before you ask.. the old pair of lights got busted off during my last winter with the 92...
and no stores sell good looking lights,, or good quality lights so I dont want to order from the internet blindly.

So question 1 will answer if I really need driving lights or not..
If I get the quad beam mod done up
If thats the case I just need to hunt down some fogs

If thats the answer then question 2 would be any fogs that are recommended...
Amber Would be my preference... and would fit without ripping out the two hooks

Any help or info would be appreciated.
thanks the Forum rookie

Re: Extra Lighting options

Get some Sylvania Xtra vision bulbs for the low beams.I didnt want to spend the extra for SIlverstars so I bought these instead. They give off more light than normal lows.

Re: Extra Lighting options

i would go with the silverstars for the low beams , they make quite a big differance . then do the quad beam mod . then if you still cant see too well ( not likely ) you can then go with driving lights . either on a safari bar . or in a bumper cover .

Re: Extra Lighting options

Re: Extra Lighting options

Thanks for the input...

Well like stated, Looks like the quad beam mod will get done...
And the high beams well silverstars are sweet for sure.. better than stockers...
And I do have some kinda bulbs for the low beams, just not silverstar.. and on normal nights.. I can manage...

And I do think I really want to add fogs, especially yellow, so the light lets me see the lines better...
See The color blindness I have is I can't see shades of colors well.. so a line covered in snow.. or the shoulder covered in snow I can't see it well....

So that quad mod works wonders right...
Would there be any reason to use driving on top of those.. or will the quad beam just destroy the light from the driving lights..??
If so I can scrap my dual fog/driving idea.. and concentrate on fogs...
then latter add my brush guard or safarie bar and dump my 150 watt lights on it for the real bad roads

Thanks again for the info

Re: Extra Lighting options

You wouldnt need driving lights with quad beams.Want to see what kind of light you will have with quads? When driving at night as you switch from low to high pull the switch back slowly just before as it clicks and goes to high beams both sets will be on.You have to catch it right as it clicks thats why you do it slowly.

Re: Extra Lighting options

Yeah I noticed that before.. I just had nothing to compare it too...
But tested it tonight and seems like the driving lights would be quite useless with those on...
Now just need to find out if its legal or not in Canada :P

Thanks again...

Re: Extra Lighting options

Im going to get annoying to you guys.. but since it looks like the Driving lights wont really be needed with a Quad beam conversion... Any fog light suggestions.. or would it be easier for me to just find some lenses with the built in fog lights...
if so, how do they perform...
I can get them.. but Ive seen some OEM Fog/Driving lights wich are pretty weak..
and I dont want to spend too much money finding the lenses and wiring them in and then find out there useless...

I am looking for functional lights not just for looks...

Thanks again

Re: Extra Lighting options

Well you guys are my last hope so ill try again..
I can't find any pics of what I want, I have no friends that drive trucks..
and no competent shops to give me ideas..
what about building a box next to the tow hook and mounting the lights in the box making it seem flush..
but where would I start

Re: Extra Lighting options

To mount lights in?Just take the tow hooks off and fab some bracket out of metal strips.Thats what I done on my old truck.

Re: Extra Lighting options

So I think I found some that will fit
Quick question I want the to only be on with the Low beams wheres the best place to get power from
in my 92 I found a spot under the dash.. would this still be the best spot..
Also if I add driving lights just on the higs where do I get power so it wont f up when the DRL kicks in.. cause my 92 even with the DRL removed I would get some back current comming back and would have low power driving lights during the day...

Re: Extra Lighting options

A good way to install fog lights so that your not drawing power from under the dash is to use a relay. These are common in fog/driving light kits that are more expensive. This allows the user to turn the fogs whenever they want, but they have a safety of only working when the headlights are turned on, leaving them off with the DRls.. With the relay mounted under the hood, power can be taken from the distrubution block in the engine compartment. Also another hint is to put the silverstar bulbs in the fog lights too. I have the silverstar bulbs in the low and high beams along with the driving and fog lights. It makes a world of difference, its almost like driving in the day when all the lights are on. If you want I can find the wiring diagrams for the relay and up load a copy, but I have to wait a couple weeks till i get home form college to get them.

Re: Extra Lighting options

i have bee thinking about doing the quad beam light mod for a while

but i was just going to put low beam bulbs in the high beam spots

so it wouls be like driving with 4 headlights instead of 2

that way you get more lighting, but dont mess with people driving by

Re: Extra Lighting options

Well thanks for the Reply
I did use Relays,
Heres the Story... With the 92 it was not a big deal so I took power from under the dash, Well the 2K theres way too many wires, plus the air BAG, Plus that metal thing that wont allow me to reach the dam wires.
So I figured my options, and I will never want just the fog's on for what I need
So what I did, I wired one relay for main power, and that relay got switched on by the power from the park light, this then powered the second relay, which got switched power from the switch in the CAB wich then powered the 3rd relay giving power to the fog lights/ then I took a splice from the headlight wich when the low beams are off the relay turns on the driving lights..

Yeah eyah I know I need some diagrams.. but hey Im at work and don't have them here

Re: Extra Lighting options

If you are still looking for fogs, you might check these out.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7971952841&rd=1&sspage name=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1

I bought a set for my blazer to replace the stock xtreme fogs. Not sure if they are quite the style you are looking for though
