Re: Envoy HID Headlight/Regular Bulb??????

it can but you have to make some sort of bracket to hold it in there.

Re: Envoy HID Headlight/Regular Bulb??????

So they dont twist & lock in place then? Thats probably why you have to make a bracket to hold them in.

Re: Envoy HID Headlight/Regular Bulb??????

one of the sets do go in and twist. so either the high or low beam needs to be made to fit.

Yea the low beam would be the one because it's the one with the transformer for the HID. Thanks Blazin00Jimmy vbmenu_register("postmenu_6526710", true);

Re: Envoy HID Headlight/Regular Bulb??????

You could pick up the bulb retainers from the junkyard and then have to make some sort of mounting plate for the bulb retainer. The bolt circle for the retainer is smaller dia. than the bolt circle for the HID mounting bracket. A piece of sheetmetal with mounting holes to match the HID mounting holes and a hole in the middle for the bulb and mounting holes for the bulb retainer. Basicly an adapter plate. What I am working on is converting my HID headlights to use standard D1S bulbs that way I can replace the bulb for a much lower cost than the GM wants for the OEM replacements.

Re: Envoy HID Headlight/Regular Bulb??????

Yea thats a great idea. I ordered my lights yesterday from a salvage yard which should be here today to do only the head light conversion. I just now have to do a little more reserch on building a harness or trying to get an oe harness and figure out how to wire the thing up. Should be one of the few Bravadas with this type of setup.

Re: Envoy HID Headlight/Regular Bulb??????

I am not sure if it matters or not but the HID headlights have a plastic insert in the low beam opening to give a proper beam and color output for the HID bulb. You should be able to tell right away if there are any issures with a 9006 bulb

Re: Envoy HID Headlight/Regular Bulb??????

I will be using the whole oe setup. Just wanted to know so if one day they go out I can still use the Envoy housing with different bulbs. I've done more reserch and it seems that quite a few people have had to do this mod due to how expensive the bulb is from GM.

Re: Envoy HID Headlight/Regular Bulb??????

I just got done replacing the bulb and ballast from GM and yes very expensive. The current bulb will not mate to the original ballast due to deisign changes over the years. You have to buy both. Once I got the ballast and bulb I was looking on EBAY and the ballast is the same one that is used on Cadillacs and is readily available. The differance is the mounting plate that the ballast comes on and the pig tail for the vehical harness. I got a ballast with the pig tail and a mounting plate for $60.00. I also picked up D1S bulb retainers for $5 that I am going to mate up to my headlight assy. All I lack is the cable between the ballast and bulb. Once that is done all I ever need to buy is a standard D1S bulb that is readily available.
