Engine performance question.
After focusing on the aesthetics of my blazer, and now that I'm happy with how it looks, I want to focus on its performance. (while I wait to get my Range...)
I am not looking to spend a lot of money but I am wondering if there are any simple mods that can be done to give it a little more power and make it quicker. Thanks guise! |

Re: Engine performance question.
You don't say which motor you have so I'm going to assume that it is the 4.3L. The best bang for the buck in performance is a custom tune of the PCM. Check this thread.
Also, you might get more responses to your question if you post in the 4.3L V6 section. |

Re: Engine performance question.
Thanks man I will read more on that... although at first glance it seems to be my best bet. Yep its a 4.3.

Re: Engine performance question.
Electric fan conversion is the best bang for the buck mod. Though they can be a little tricky to set up initially. Cold air intakes/ airbox mod is also a good complement along with Exhaust and custom tune ( listed above).

Re: Engine performance question.
As always, a higher-flowing aftermarket exhaust is always another key first mod to any build-up as well. They don't all flow the same, but most all aftermarket mufflers will flow better than stock. Meander around the sound clip sticky in the exhaust section and find one to you liking. Last edited by 02_Black_XBlazer : 04-06-2008 at 10:02 AM. |

Re: Engine performance question.
I understand your line of reasoning, and the butterfly certainly could become a restriction on a forced induction vehicle, or perhaps a 4.3 with a good bit of internal work, but for stock-to-bolt-on motors, there's going to be essentially no gain. It's the same deal as with a CaI kit...You can take in all the air you want, but if there's been no change to the motor's ability to accept it in (ie: ported heads, larger-lift/duration camshaft, aftermarket intake manifold), there's very little the motor can do with the extra air. Very few of us will build a motor that "outflows" the stock throttle body. In fact I recently swapped out my busted-ass "ported" throttle body for a stocker (I posted the pics of the hack-job ported tb in a thread a while back in this section), b/c I lost throttle response at low rpm from ported over the stock tb.
