Driver side door collar and pin need replacing

My driver side door on a 1995 4WD Blazer collar and pin need replacing so I am wondering if it possible to do all without removing the door or the hinge? I tried to do search on this forum about it but as far I found is that I am going to need to buy a compress tool to remove the spring so I could remove the pin since it seem to be inserted from the bottom?

Also my hole is egged just a little bit so does it need to be fix before putting in a new collar?

Any tips or howto on replacing the collar and pin on upper driver side hinge will be great!

Thanks for replies!

Re: Driver side door collar and pin need replacing

After doing some more searching I found this http://www.s10forum.com/door_pin_and_bushing_repair

But the pictures seem to be missing.

Anyway I am still wanting to replace the top hinge bushing and pin without removing the door and can that be done or the door need to be removed.

I already got the bushing and pin kit from OReiliy Auto but I will need to go to Habor Freight to see if I can get that spring compress tool.

Re: Driver side door collar and pin need replacing

it would be best to remove the whole door when you do it. it might be possible to jut replace the top one with the door still on by having a friend hold the door up and lean it out to get you enough room but that might damage the lower pin when you lean the door out.

its a pretty easy thing to do, you might have some trouble getting the pin out if you live in a rusty area. about the hole egging, you could get by with just replacing the bushing but obviously the best fix would be to weld it and re drill.

I think your right after closer inpection that it may be better just to remove the whole door. Also I will just go ahead and replace the lower pin and collar since I will have the door off.

Thanks for inputs!

Re: Driver side door collar and pin need replacing

I was getting ready to start on removing the door then I realized there a bunch of wires going from sidewall into the door for power lock and windows. Also there 16 more wires added thur that rubber wire housing by me when I install a power windows controller for the alarm system set up so it would roll up all 4 my windows or I can roll the front or rear down with alarm remote.

Anyone tried replacing the pin with the door off but somehow brace the door next to the truck? I was thinking of renting a engine lift and tied the door to it so I can take it off but keeping it next to the truck,.

I wonder if that rubbber housing for wires will even have enough slacks in it to work on replacing the collars?
