Door hinges
Ok, here's the big question. Has anyone replaced their door hinges? Mine have been damaged. One is broke and the other is bent ot alignment. I realize this isn't going to be an easy job but I wanted to know how in depth it would be to have someone do this. I'm talking about the ones attached to the body of the vehicle, not on the doors. I always hoped that GM would start making them bolt on instead of wealded. Anyways, what ya guys think.
Thanks, Aaron |

Re: Door hinges
my name is Aaron too, go figure!
I actually had a door hinge problem also. The little spring inside of the hinge that helps to keeps the door open at certain points actaully shot out and hit me SQUARE in the nuts . This happened because the vertical pin on the hinge actaully has a tiny lil crack in it that allowed for the spring to pop out. The dealer ship told me that it could only be fixed by a body shop, or they could put the spring back in and risk it coming back out. SOOOOO now my door swings open freely b/c im not gonna pay to have a new hinge put on just yet and im not gonna take the risk of gettin hit in the baby batter bag with a metal spring EVER again, that shit hurt REAL F'n bad.My brothers sonoma door hinge is also messed up. His door sags like a door on an 85 Camaro. With the door open you actually lift it like one whole inch up and down. Best of luck! |

Re: Door hinges
OUCH! Well Aaron, I understand your reluctancy to put the spring back in
I do know they have a tool for the spring. I actually found a link in someones post here on this site for one. Hmmm, why doesn't GM make these things easier to replace if it is so common for them to go bad? I don't want to shell out the bucks either but it drives me crazy to not have things right on. Thanks for the replies, Aaron |
