I have access to a 97 blazer. Needs a motor, not a big deal, but I want to lose the 4WD drivetrain. What will need to be done to make it 2WD only. I want to do a V8 swap but dont give 2 s**ts about the 4WD. Any suggestions? Thanx in advance.

Re: Dont want 4WD
if your wanting it to be 2wd to use coil springs.. youll need a 2wd frame.
if you just want to remove the front 4wd parts to make it 2wd only so you can use lowering keys and uncrank them to slam the front end, all you need to do is remove the cv driveshafts. 4wd uses a diffrent frame, and torsion bars, 2wd uses coil springs. i have a 4wd and want to slam it 5/6, but finding a 2wd blazer here in my town in iowa.. is a 0.001% chance, searched for a 2wd s10 or s10 blazer, found one, but for $11,800... |

Re: Dont want 4WD
get rid of the cv shafts, front diff, front driveshaft and transfer case and then get a differnent output shaft for the tranny.
that should get rid of all of the 4wd components. |

Re: Dont want 4WD
personally, if it's a really good deal, and you can do the work yourself, just fix it and sell it. Take that money and put towards a nice 2wd.

Re: Dont want 4WD
the insurance will still consider it 4x4 because of the VIN. even if you take off the transfer case

Re: Dont want 4WD
+1 on a great idea. Lots of Blazers can be had in the Cleveland area right now with gas as high as it is. I've also seen plenty of 2wd 2dr blazers, but almost no 4dr 2wd ones. |
