dome light won't shut off

my dome light just started staying on all the time... no matter what i do, it won't shut off. what could be the problem??

Can you still turn it off with the over ride button.

And mine started doing this to after i had my alarm installed and they have basically uninstalled the alarm and it still did it so they say it is not there problem even though it is cause it didn't do it before i had the alarm so i hope someone can help with this. Even though it is probably in the wrong section.

then they must have gotton a wire crossed when they did the alarm. need to check them really good.

But the thing with mine is that it is a hit or miss thing like one time it will do it but not another time. But it is doing it a lot more now almost like every time.

mine used to only go on with the override button, it wouldnt work with the doors being open, the light always stayed on and i had to keep if off by using the override.

i ended up finding out that there were no wires going to the pass doorpin at all, they were no where to be found, so it thought that the pass. door was always open. so i had to run a new wire to the bcm and one to ground and now its good.

Yeah my truck when i bought it didn't even have a door pin in the passenger side or any wires running over there but the dome light was working fine even with that being like that

i would check all the door pins, i have a bad one that would lose contact and cuase the dome light to come on and the alarm woudl go off all the time, it did this for awhile, and i jiggled the drivers side rear door switch and it stopped, i need to replace it, will probably do all of them, they are cheap at the stealership.

ya if you cut the wires on a door pin it will go off so unless your pin was stuck out i wouldent expect it to be the prob

Sometimes, it is not the door pin itself, but it's that the door is not pushing the pin in far enough. Manuelly push the pin in with your finger, if the light turns off, that means the door is just not pushing the pin in enough. Adding a washer or two to make the pin button stick out further on the door will work.

okay, over ride button? what exactly is that? I just baught the truck, a 97 s10, and it didnt have a bulb in there at all. i baught a bulb and it just stays on, i manually pushed in the door pins and it remained on. also, i screwed around with that switch that turns down the light of the gauges and what not. Still wont go off, are there any real troubleshooting procedures?? pictures? suggestions?? thanks

97's don't have a Dome Override button. GM didn't start using override buttons on these trucks until a couple of years later. I know this for a fact because my '96 Blazer doesn't have one, but my wife's '01 Jimmy does. (IMO, I got the better deal, because all I have to do is pull the fuse to permanently remove the daytime running lights -- but that's a topic for another thread.)

I took some things apart, did some trial and error. I came up with this-for some reason, the light sensor is reversed. when the door is open(pin is out) the light is off. Once i push the pin in, the light comes on and turns off with the timer. Im gonna run by a dealership to get 2 new sensors and pins and hopefully figure something out.

I have the same issue in my 96 s10 now, it never did it before, but I recently took it off the road to start tearing it apart (never got to the tearing apart stage) and one day when I went to mess with it, the light never turned off. I've checked the door pins manually, still nothing.

I'm going to look more into it, for now I just pulled the fuse.

Don't forget to make sure the rear hatch glass is pushed shut firmly.
After I slam mine shut, I still have to push it hard to make sure the dome light goes out.
