Disc Brake Rear End info needed...
I figured I'd try you SUV kids. I did a search and found nothing so here is my question...
What is the RPO Code and GM part Number for a S-Series 2WD SUV rear end with an 8.5 ring gear and 3.42 gear ratio? I'm looking for the unit with disc brakes. I want to swap it in to my S-10 pick up/ upgrade from Drum rear brakes. |

GU6 is the code for the 3.42s. That will be on all rear-ends 2wd or 4x4.
I don't know the code for disc, I think that depends upon year model. |

i dunno the code for disc either, but look for them in 98-newer blazers...my 96 blazer 4dr 4wd has drum brakes in the rear....

you can buy the disc conversion as long as you have the bolt on backing platers for the brakes

 Just bought a ZR2 Blazer rear end with discs for a buddy on eBay for 416.00, complete with new calipers, pads, rotors. score! |

if you're looking to find a 8.5" rear with discs AND 3.42 ratio you are really narrowing your search down A LOT.
As far as I know, the 2wd disc rear ends only came in 2 door blazers ('98 up I think) that had either the ZQ8 package or the Xtreme package. There were lots of 4wd disc rears in the ZR2's but those are wider than the 2wd axles and therefore wouldn't fit. To get a 8.5" rear in those blazers, it had to be a 4.3 with a 5 speed. And then I believe you had to special order it with a 3.42 ratio (although I could be wrong on that). So if you want to find one you'll have to find a '98 up 2wd 2dr blazer (ZQ8 or Xtreme) with a 4.3 and a 5 speed. Then I guess just verify that the blazer that it came from has the GU6 code. Just picked up that exact rearend for 500 bucks. It was brand spanking new too...:-D Its going in this weekend.

my 4 door has rear discs, pretty sure all 98+ blazers have em, as far as gear i dont know
