Change Antifreeze -- 98 Jimmy

A month ago my 98 Jimmy overheated. Found a small leak
where the fitting goes into the radiator opposite side from the
cap. Filled it with water to get home, put in some Bars Stop Leak
and seems OK.

How do I drain the water out of the system to refill with
antifreeze/water mixture? I don't plan to flush the system
I had that done last year and who knows, that may have
opened things up enough to give me the leak.

Was the coolant red of green that was in there?

In my experience, it is easier to pull the radiator out to drain. The drain plug is a b*tch to get too. I have pulled the rad. on my 97 SS as well as my 01 Blazer and it only takes a couple of minutes. If the fluid is red you will want to drain everything completely and refill with green. Make sure you flush, drain and flush again to get all of the red junk out of there.

Re: Change Antifreeze -- 98 Jimmy

ok, i'll crawl under there sometime and see what i can see.

i don't remember what color the fluid was--it's all water now, plus bars stop leak pellets (dissolved).

red stuff--ok, i read up on dexcool. i'll drain it and put in the green stuff. either premix or i'll mix it -30 or -40 deg.

anyone know the coolant capacity, radiator plus block?

Re: Change Antifreeze -- 98 Jimmy

anyone know the coolant capacity?

lube place said they can change it out with green a/f for 60 bucks.
what would my cost be for green a/f if i do it myself?

might be worth it to avoid the headache.

I'm not sure on the capacity, it may be listed somewhere here on the forum. Have you looked around at all?
