Brakes sticking
I have a 98' Jimmy and have lately had some brake problems. Last week I noticed a grinding noise, when I looked into it the pads in my back brakes were cracked and grinding the hell out of my rotors. Ok no problem, new rotors and pads. 2 days later, burning smell and squeeling. Check it out, new pads 1/2 gone, blistering hot rotor. The pads seem to be rubbing all the time. My only thought is there should be a retaining clip to pull the pads back with the piston, but its just a thought.
Any ideas? Side question: Whats the average fuel milage for a 4 door 4wd? Obviesly the brakes are causing an issue but I've only been getting about 12mpg . |

Re: Brakes sticking
Worry about your mileage after the brakes.
When you compressed the caliper piston to put in the new pads, was the bleed valve open? If it wasn't, that could be the reason your calipers are sticking--busted seals. Buy two new calipers and swap them out, if the problem persists, take them back. Also be prepared to replace the rubber brake hoses. They may have been damaged from the excessive heat. |
