Bolting flywheel to torque converter
I searched for an answer to this but couldn't in a reasonable amount of time, so here is my question. I am trying to bolt the flywheel to the converter and the two are about a quarter inch away from each other. I am asking if the two will draw together when tightening the bolts or am I walking into a disaster later? The bolts seem to be turning in very easy. But when I tried to push the converter into the flywheel, it seemed to hit something. The torque converter turns very easy. I was assuming the center of the crankshaft was mating with the torque converter. But with the help of the bolts, it will fully seat. I am in no hurry that is why I am asking here before I do it. I am pretty darn sure what I am doing is right, I just want to be 100% sure from somebody who has already done it.
Thanks in advance, Eric |

Re: Bolting flywheel to torque converter
is the trans fully mated to the engine? like flat against one another? if so, then do what u will...... if not, id def get the motor and trans mated first..... the torque converter locks in place TWO TIMES in the trans.... if the engine/trans arent close enough, bolting up the converter will eventually ruin the converter, and maybe the valvebody

Re: Bolting flywheel to torque converter
Yes, its fully mated and torqued down. Nothing is binding between the flywheel and the converter. Converter turns freely when I turn it clockwise. Thanks for the quick reply.

Re: Bolting flywheel to torque converter
if you have the trans and engine bolted together tight, and you can spin the torque, an 1/8 to 1/4 is about the right distance if you have the torque pushed all the way into the pump, you can use a prybar and pry it onto the flexplate now, and bolt it with the 3 bolts, just remember to use the double d hole in the flexplat to line it all up, put that bolt in, and tighten it, roll the motor 120 degrees, and continue, you'll be fine.
