Blown head gasket...questions?
I found a JMC Jimmy on craigslist.
Here's the listing. "I have just what you need! 1995 GMC Jimmy. Automatic, power windows and locks, body is in great shape, it blew a head gasket, but all other parts are in great condition, new radiator, new brake booster, new tires, and the oil has been kept clean. Loving owner. :-) If you're interested, please feel free to get in touch with me to come over and check it out. $900 OBO. parts are well worth the price." I'm going to email him about pictures, miles, other problems, ect. I know how to replace a headgasket. My question is, what happens to blow the headgasket? Should I be worried about any damage to the head/block? Pistons, valves, anything? What should I offer him? I'm trying to get it as inexpensive as I possibly can. |

Re: Blown head gasket...questions?
A severe overheat condition will cause a blown gasket. That would cause the piston rings and valve springs to soften up. Oil doesn't lubricate well at high temps too, so pistons, valve stems and rocker arms would all wear like metal on metal.
