blinker going out - works intermittently

my turn signals act buggy in my 95 blazer. sometimes they work fine. sometimes they dont work at all. sometimes they work but they blink really really fast without really making that clicking sound from the relay.

also one of my reverse lights are out. not sure if that is related. i swapped the bulb but that did'nt seem to help. someone suggested a 'multifunction' switch. apparently his late model impala had a multifunction switch go bad and it affected a lot of electrical things. not sure if my truck even has one of those. any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Re: blinker going out - works intermittently

start with the easier stuff
1- check all bulbs
2 - check the flasher unit thingy (part that makes the clicky soound)
3 - grounds
4 - switch

Re: blinker going out - works intermittently

If you get to the flashers area (near the ash tray, need to remove some bolts)) you can test the turning light swapping the flashers (hazard/turning) and replacing it if bad, but first see the bulbs. One fried bulb will mean fast clicking/flashing at that side. Let the reverse light apart (not related). Remember that are 2 bulbs each side at the rear (don't get confused). The switch is a major pain, leave at the last check.

Re: blinker going out - works intermittently

I have a '99 Blazer with all the factory bells & whistles. I had the same symptoms... checked all the easy stuff as d-man13 suggested. In my case it was the very expensive multi-funtion turnsignal, wiper, cruise and high-beam (with flash to pass new in '99) switch. Part alone runs close to $300 or better. Good luck, an older one probably wouldn't cost quite as hard.
