Blazers With Tinted Tail lights

I was wondering if anyone has or could just post pictures of tinted tail lights on second gen Blazers, preferably black Blazers. Also for those of you that did it yourself, could you explain the process? Thanks

Re: Blazers With Tinted Tail lights

Mine is tinted with smoked vinyl I bought off of ebay. I bought a 12x24 sheet for 20 bucks. Came with all the instructions. Just spray the lens down and lays the sheet down, squeegee the water out, then use a heat gun while squeegeeing it more.

Re: Blazers With Tinted Tail lights

That looks good. Are you useing stock tail lights or are they some type of aftermarket ones? I will have to try that. Do you have a link to what you bought off of ebay?

Re: Blazers With Tinted Tail lights

Yea their just the stock tail lights with tint on them. Heres the link of the exact stuff I bought.
eBay Motors: SMOKE TAIL LIGHT TAILLIGHT KIT VINYL FILM SMOKED OUT (item 170068264376 end time Mar-15-07 20:51:52 PDT)
The only bad thing about the vinyl is that it has little air bubbles underneath the vinyl that popped up when the temperature warmed up since I did mine in the winter. You are only able to see the bubbles when you look really close but they disappear when your a few feet away.

Yeah, I was wondering who did that. Yours were the first ones I thought of when I wanted to do this, but I don't know now how it would look on a black Blazer. Have any buddies with black Blazers that you can put them on and take pictures of lol. Just kidding, but thanks for the idea.

Oh, I meant I don't know how it would look on my truck to just tint the top and not the bottom part. And since I complimented your lights earlier, that means when you buy 20's you have to sell me your stock rims with those tires on them for nice and cheap

Re: Blazers With Tinted Tail lights

I tinted mine today. First time I've ever really spray painted something, so I kind of speckled up the left one on the first coat. Also I used the Testors Gloss Cote and it didn't turn out as glossy as I thought. Maybe it needs to be buffed or polished, I don't know, but here they are:
Before

After

Both

They look pretty damned dark during the day even, but at night there is no problem seeing them.

what % tint are most people using if they use film? also, are you sanding the letters off the tail lights to make them smooth?

depends on your state i think...i cant imagine they are very legal anywhere though. I live in montana and the day before i was going to buy the stuff to tint them, i was informed of a law here that states it is illegal to have any type of tint on the headlights or tail lights....sooo my idea down the tubes there...oh well

That does look pretty cool. Much better than the non-painted one. Where did you get the led reverse lights? I can't see mine at all anymore and I love my reverse lights.

I just did them, but the cops around here I'm sure wont give a damn. As long as you can see them clearly from a good distance away, they probably wont stop you for it.

If you plan on doing this, I'd recommend sanding off the letters. I didn't sand them all the way off, just a tad to make them smoother and I don't like that I didn't. If you do sand off the letters, remember that there is another letter on each tail light right above where the reverse light starts. It's an L or an R (depending on what side, duh).

Re: Blazers With Tinted Tail lights

I picked up some tint spray today... for $14 at car boutique. I just put in new tail lights two days ago. They looked a little too ricer-like, so I wanted to tone them down a little bit with the tint.

Here is the before:

And the after:

Now they don't look boarderline ricer and definitely match the car a lot better. The tinting spray was very easy to use, however I would imagine you would maybe need two cans if you wanted to do them solid dark.

Xenon4300 go to a hobby store (like Hobby Lobby) and buy these and re-do those. Will look a TON better. Also look at the link I posted in #27.

Re: Blazers With Tinted Tail lights

Okay I will check out Hobby Lobby and see if I can get that... I used 'Nite Shades' spray, and it came out very hazy. I already have clear coat spray, so I will just get that tint stuff if I can. Is that just more transparent, so it will look clearer, while being darker? Also, what should I use to get this Nite Shades crap off?

Re: Blazers With Tinted Tail lights

The Testors stuff is about same as Nite Shades.Have to remember its for model cars that gonna sit on a shelf and not be washed, rained on,etc.

From what I have seen in pics and stuff the way to go is with automotive clear with black tint in it.

Re: Blazers With Tinted Tail lights

I bought that model spray tint, the can is exactly the same only it's 'Transparent Black Window Tint' and not 'Clear Transparent Black Window Tint'... so, since clear and transparent are pretty much one in the same, I am assuming it is just the same stuff... I will try it out as soon as I get my car back (getting a dent fixed).

Thanks for the help

Re: Blazers With Tinted Tail lights

I bought my tint online because I couldn't find it at any hobby stores, but it was the RC294 Window Tint made by pactra. I don't know if I'm retarded or what, but when you do it make sure you paint the back of the tail light where the lens overlaps the housing. I didn't and when you look at it the edges still look redish. After that, I used the 1261 Gloss Cote by Testors. I think they will look much better after wetsanding and polishing them, but right now they are dull looking. xtremegeek on here has probably the best looking tinted tail lights and they are very shiny, not dull. He told me to have the clear done at a body shop if possible, and I think he's right. His look much nicer than mine and I followed his directions except for that one.

Re: Blazers With Tinted Tail lights

Okay so I re-did my tail lights, and I am not happy. Someone suggested using 'Clear Transparent Black Window Tint' from hobby lobby. I bought the exact same product only the label is 'Transparent Black Window Tint'. I didn't notice there was a difference until I got back on this forum. My tail tint has a blueish color to them now and it looks not very good. I am wondering if the CLEAR Transparent Black Window Tint doesn't have this bluish color. I will see if I can find the clear one at hobby lobby, and if so, re-do them for a third time... Also, once I sprayed on the clear coat, they got kinda hazed up and it was no longer as clear as the tint only. I used like an automotive paint clear coat spray, should I try using testers or is that just as bad? Grrr... I will get this straightened out in time. I'll get pics tomorrow or when I'm not too busy.

/rant.

Re: Blazers With Tinted Tail lights

Went cruising the Ave. tonight and I actually got pulled over for these. He asked me if my alternator was working alright, because my lights appeared dim. I told him that my gauge was reading just fine. He said "Those gauges aren't always 100% correct. I thought they had covers on them or something but I felt them and they didn't." I didn't lie once to the guy, but I came nowhere near telling him the whole truth. After all that he gave me a kind of warning saying "Defective Tail Lamp--Appear Dim" but it's not a fix it ticket, just kind of like saying hey, they're ****ed up man.

I asked a cop here in Arkansas and he told me that to be legal you must be able to tell a change from taillight to brake light from 500 feet at night. But everyone around here has blackouts front and back with no catalytic converters and no telling what else and the cops do not care.
