Blazer Leaking Need Help

I have an 01' S10 Blazer I just bought last week. Today my friend noticed water on the floor of the passenger seat. I lifted up the floor mat and it was soaked, and the water was hot. Is it my AC leaking? Is it a easy fix I could probably do myself? And if I took it to a shop how much do you think it should cost?

Thanks,
-Jason

Re: Blazer Leaking Need Help

could also just be the evaperator core plugged up and leaking onto the floor.... jack the truck up on the pass side as high as you can safely.... then take a coat hanger and run it up into the A/C evaperator drain tube (should be coming out of the firewall near the pass side... this will drain any water that was somehow plugged up in the tube....

if this is not the problem, then it might just be the heater core... you should have other symptoms though if it is a heater core like the water on the floor will be coolant, not water and the defroster may also fog up the inside of the windsheild.

did you have the AC on? if so the drain for the system may be clogged or broken...

or... was it stinky if so it is your heater core...

Shop? What is this...shop...you speak of?

Heater core was $38 and bought 3 gallons of pre-mixed antifreeze (no clue how much I actually need, they couldn't tell me). I would never have a shop work on something as I don't need to pay someone $90 an hour to do what I can do myself in half the time it takes them to.

Just about any automotive shop..more for the dealership. Wether or not it's an easy fix depends on the individuals ability. I replaced one and it started leaking again 6 months later. I didn't have the time to do it again so I took it in to a shop...$500..and worth every penny...to me.

If my heater core starts leaking in 6 months I can promise you my truck will not live to tell about it!!

I bought a non-Chinese core (so they said) from NAPA. After removal, it was found to be leaking at the point where the pipes enter the core. I had the shop that replaced it (Austins Pro-Max) use a generous amount of silicone all around the area where the pipes enter the core just before they installed the new core. Problem free so far. I bekieve the problem with most cores is the adjustable pipes....a seal and a couple of crimps just don't work..

Ah crap, I really wish I would've seen this before I just finished putting my truck all back together!! Mine had the adjustable pipes, but it was proudly made in Mexico. I didn't even think to line those pipes with silicone.

It's very easy (helps to have a second hand when actually lifting it out) just time consuming. It took me quite awhile to do mine but it doesn't help that I'm phsyically handicapped at the moment.

#1 tip: Remember where all the bolts are. Make sure to mark them or use some other method to remember where they go. I ended up with a handful of extra bolts...my dash is solid though so I'm not worried.
