Re: blazer and trailer?

class 3 hitch 5000 lb.+ hitch ball

your gas mileage and power are going to go down the pooper but it should be able to stop pretty well with the electric brakes. Also the ass end is going to sag a little bit as well.

Re: blazer and trailer?

have fun towing that much. i know for a fact a 26 or 28 foot trailer will nearly kill ur blazer. u will need a brake controller for ur blazer a weight distribution hitch set up correctly and alot of money for new brakes on ur blazer and a ton of cash for gas. 26 or 28 foot trailer is not a small trailer i wouldn't personally do it. i work around trailers for the past 3 years now. 2 1/2 years around rv trailers and 1 year now around car trailers.

Re: blazer and trailer?

We pull a 20ft trailer loaded with hay every 2 or 3 days with my stepmoms 4.3 4x4 4 door jimmy and it does pretty good. Somewhere around 6000 lbs without the trailer. Its made about 30 trips like that but the trans is about gone

Re: blazer and trailer?

With a weight distributing hitch and electric trailer brakes, it should be a piece of cake. Take your time and don't push it too hard. The heaviest load will be on the tranny, so take off slow. I would also install an auxiliary tranny cooler - about $100 but money well spent.

With electric trailer brakes, it's almost like stopping without the trailer - very little load on your brakes. Be sure to air up your tires to the max - prolly 35 psi. Anticipate your stops. Watch out for that red light 1/4 mi. ahead and coast a lot.

Be careful and have fun on your trip!

Re: blazer and trailer?

http://www.etrailer.com/pc-BC~5500.htm that is one of the easiest and best brake controller on the market. we sell at my job 99 percent of the time that controller. u will need 2 separate runs of power to the rear of the blazer. 2 runs 12 guage each. one is for brake feed to ur 7 way plug on the rear and the other is a hot wire if needed. everything else wire wise u can use 14 gauge would be plenty

Re: blazer and trailer?

get rid of the trans PWM lockup control, or you will kill this thing the first time you pull uphill with anything under 98% tcc apply. a cooler wont do shit for you if you are still running pcm controlled part lockup.
