Back glass/tailgate?
The rear glass release on my Blazer isn't working, and I have to get into the door itself to see why the mechanism isn't functioning. I pulled the carpet back to access the port where you can manually release the mechanism, but it still doesn't work. The screws to remove the panel are on the inside of the door where it meets with the body so I can't remove the panel without breaking the whole damn thing.
I think I know the answer (I'm going to have to break it), but does anyone know another way? Thanks! It's the same 2000 4dr Blazer I've had. |

Re: Back glass/tailgate?
i could be wrong, but i seem to recall that if you put the key in the rear hatch and turn it one way, it opens the liftgate, turn it the other way and it opens the glass.

Re: Back glass/tailgate?
is there a possibility it could be the switch up front isn't working? maybe try taking off the switch and hooking up the wires directly to the battery for a second (or a 9v battery would probably work). also might want to check fuses just to be sure.

Re: Back glass/tailgate?
You can hear the mechanism TRYING to unlatch when you hit the button up front (and at the rear glass), but nothing happens. I'm thinking one of the rods that connect the actuator to the actual lock came off, or the actuator itself has malfunctioned (if that were the case, hitting the manual release under the carpet should have worked). I would be better able to see the problem if I could get that DAMNED rear cover off, but I can't because the window won't open, and I can't fix that because I can't get the rear cover off... you see what I'm getting at.

Re: Back glass/tailgate?
I've got a 2002 Xtreme Blazer and the same thing happend to mine. I've only got a push button to open the back glass. I ended up taking it to the dealer and they had to break the back panel off to even look at getting the glass to open. It turns out that the motor was fried to open the glass.

Re: Back glass/tailgate?
This post is a little late, but I went through this today so I will tell you what I did to fix it while it is fresh in my head. The plastic piece that ends up breaking is roughly half the size of a popsicle stick in length. It is rounded on one end with a small knob on it that goes through a metal arm that is connected to the glass release. As you look through the access hole you should be able to see the plastic piece, and if it is connected to the arm it is easy to open, but in most cases it is broken. When it breaks the arm that it is connected too will swing due to gravity and now be out of sight and down below the hole. The one thing to look for is a bracket that is directly in line with the hole because that arm is connected to that. What I did is make a tool at 90 degrees that I could fish for that arm and return it to the upright position... not very easy but remember your fishing not catching... As soon as you get the arm upright push it to the left and your window will pop open.
I ended up fabricating a new piece for this so it never happens again. I used a piece of aluminum the shape of the original and secured it to the servo then used 8/32 stove bolt and nuts to make a bomb proof latch. good luck |
