Are 2d and 4d dropgates the same?

Are the drop down gates on second gen 4 doors and 2 doors the same? I know the glass is the same but are the gates interchangeable?

They look the same to me. I had a 98 Jimmy 4 door with the drop gate and currently have an 03 Blazer 2 door with the drop gate. They look identical to me.

Yeah, my 95 4d gate and my 00 2dr gate look the same too.
The only reason I was asking cause I want to get rid of the gate on my 00 cause it has the outside tire carrier and im having a hard time locally finding one with the inside spare mount so i was thinking that maybe i can just get a 4 door gate and use it...

Inside spare tire mount doesn't go on the tailgate. It goes on the drivers side panel with a couple stand off's that bolt to it. I haven't pulled my spare yet to see exactly how it's held on.

Yeah, I know that, lol. I have the outside tire mount right now and rather than shaving it, I just wanna get an OEM smooth gate (comes on 2 doors with the inside tire mount, or any four door, if four door ones fit).
There was no 2nd gen 2wd sold in Canada which would get me the smooth gate and all the 2doors around here that people are parting out seem to have the outside tire carrier.
I need to hurry my ass up and get my passport so I can just pop over to MI and buy a gate off of Craigslist, lol!

I misunderstood and thought you thought the spare mounted to the inside of the gate. Living in Canada sucks!

the inside panel is the same because my 2dr has the interior panel off of a 4door drop gate. I didn't modify anything.

You know you'll have to fill in some holes on the side of the body that the outside spare carrier mounts to, right? Might as well just have the holes in the tailgate filled/painted at the same time.

Probably cost as much for a body shop to fill/body work the holes as it would to find a decent used gate without the mount.

There are some 4 door gates locally for $50 so thats why im hoping theyll fit

I may one day want to switch back to the outside carrier so I want to have both gates. For the quarter where the holes are for the mount, ive got some body coloured 'plugs' that I stole off of a full size at work that was in for body repairs hat im just gonna use there. Like I said, its just my daily so things dont have to be perfect.
