Anyone elses spare hit the rear x-member?

I'm pretty sure I have a stock size spare 15" tire that originally came on my Blazer (what's the stock size again?) My spare tire rubs the rear x-member. It's so bad that I had to get a tire that is near being slick. Just wondering if this is a common problem.

It's as tight as it'll go and it's centered in the spot that it should be in.

Hey, if you had a blow out in Nashville, TN on a 6 lane doing 75 mph and having to change the tire in the left emergency lane that is just a tad wider than my Blazer while vehicles are doing 70+ mph and causing the entire Blazer to shake because they come within 3 ft of it, you'd know what a spare tire is.

I was saying that was a shitty experience and if he had that happen to him he'd know what a spare tire was. Get it?

Re: Anyone elses spare hit the rear x-member?

haha. it's actually a great place to work too, they fund the majority of my projects.

it's really hard to be motivated to walk in there and work, but once the shift starts it goes by fast and before you know it you are out the door and

i would suggest putting the spare tire in the back hatch

Re: Anyone elses spare hit the rear x-member?

I don't want to put the tire on the hatch.

Yeah I know that'd fix the problem, but I've been looking for one of those compact spares that came on some of the s-series.

Re: Anyone elses spare hit the rear x-member?

I don't understand your problem. Is the tire contacting the rear differential or just touching the crossmember at the rear bumper. If it was rubbing at the bumper I wouldn't see that as a problem. If it was making contact with the rear diff. then that would be an issue. Both my Blazers have 235-75/15 spares under them and I've never had a problem. Even when the 95 was lowered 5" it didn't hit with the same spares.

Re: Anyone elses spare hit the rear x-member?

try flipping the tire over so the outside of the rim faces the ground... the side you would see if it was on your truck... i thinj it you had it backside down it will move around and rub... that is your problem correct.. its moving around under here? if not im totally lost on what your talking about... maybe take some pics to claify what is happening

Rubbing at the rear bumper x-member. The problem is that I'm having to run a near bald tire.

Re: Anyone elses spare hit the rear x-member?

stock tire size is 225/75r15 for my 00 jimmy withch is probley the same as yours... i tried to take a pic so you could show me what its rubbing on but my camera batteries died from all the recent pics i took of my jimmy..lol... perhaps maybe the gearing in your tire lift is shot or the cable has a kink in it not letting it go up enough... unless your running a massive tire like i am you shouldnt have any problems... thats just my thoughts though

Re: Anyone elses spare hit the rear x-member?

The tire is too far towards the rear x-member, but it looks centered under the floor where it goes.

SUPER AWESOME ILLUSTRATION!

Re: Anyone elses spare hit the rear x-member?

i would put the normal tire on and right before you get to the point where it touches push it forward so it doesnt hit that... sure it isnt hitting an aftermarket hitch... i didnt see anything under my truck that it would hit back there... your guess is as good as mine at this point

Re: Anyone elses spare hit the rear x-member?

ok I'll try that.

I had a hitch on there before and it was hitting that BAD. So I just took it off. I really need to just go get a used tire close to the same size as my 16" tires.

Re: Anyone elses spare hit the rear x-member?

Yeah you need to help the tire into it's correct position as you jack it up the last few turns.

Ok I'm going to try this.

Is the factory tire size 235/75/15? for a 2wd?

Re: Anyone elses spare hit the rear x-member?

This is a 235/75x15 under a 4WD Blazer. No problems rubbing because the tire simply doesn't move. It it very snug.

You need to crank up the spare, then shift it around just before getting it to the top. It should rest on the forward crossmember, just behind the axle. See the marks.

Here's what mine looks like now:

Thanks A LOT for the pics man. Mine is hitting that rear x-member and was squishing against the hitch so I'll fix that ASAP.
