Question AC No power?

My brothers AC worked last year when he recharged it but it had a leak so after the coolant leaked out he unpluged it so he didn't reck it when using the defrost.Tthe other day he went to plug it in because he was going to recharge it and it wouldnt' turn on. We checked the wiring and there was no current. We checked the fuse and there was nothing blown. I don't know about the relays but we would like to know why there is no current there so he can use it this summer. thanks

Re: AC No power?

Ac compressors will NOT turn on if there isnt enough pressure. There really wasnt any need for your brother to unplug the thing. When AC systems run low on refrigerant they automatically cut power to the compressor, so it wont burn up. The oil needed to lubricate the compressor is in the refrigerant, and without adequate pressure they die. So you are right, you arent going to get power there because the high pressure switch has senced a low pressure and removed power from the circuit.

But seeing how it has not run in a year, I would highly suggest replacing the carbon seals in the compressor. they go bad when the compressor isnt run.

Re: AC No power?

How is he suppose to recharge it because the coolant won't go in unless the compressor turns on. That is the main problem i think his seals will be fine he ran it last summer just not through the winter but i do get your pt on the seals but he doesn't care he just wants refrigerant in it and he can't get any in.

The compressor isnt turning on because there isnt adequate pressure in the damned system. Once an A/C machine is hooked up it will once again start working. The compressor does not need to be on to charge the system.

Re: AC No power?

so what the hell is this so called AC machine. My friend charged his with the kit from walmart and it worked great. No machine needed so what does the stupid thing do just pull a vaccume on the system? Wouldn't there be some way of doing it without that machine?
