99 Blazer font end squeak,2 wheel drive

I am new to the Forum and want to thank everyone for making this the place to be when it comes to S10's and their loyal owners. I have always read various posts and have learned quite a bit over time here. Now that I have a problem with my 99 I decided to post a question. I have the loudest squeak when just pressing down on either front corner of the front bumper of the blazer. Its a 2 wheel drive and its been a great vehicle. It sounds like the control arm bushings, not sure if its the upper or lower?? Anyway how can I pinpoint this and is it possible to get rid of the squeak without changing the control arms, providing it is the control arms?? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Yes,it squeaks all the time. As a matter of fact its impossible to sneak home at night with it making this much noise.

Get someone to help you bounce the truck while you listen with a 4'-5' piece of garden hose or old heater hose. Use the hose like a stethoscope and put one end to your ear and move the other end around to the various parts of the suspension until you locate the squeak. Let us know what you find.

Dumb question, do you grease the front end? I've heard balljoints that did that.

Could be your C-arm bushings squeeking too

Could also be the rubber piece that goes on the coil springs has gotten a hole in it and the coil is rubbing against the metal.

My mother-in-laws 95 Blazer has a HELLACIOUS squeek to it, worst vehicle I've ever heard.

Best thing I can think to do is grease the front end and spray WD-40 on all the busings and pivot points, let it soak in and bounce the front of the Blazer. My rear sway bar squeeked bad so I did that and it quit.

Does it have drop spindles?? If so, make sure the dust shield isn't rubbing on the lca.

It's a 98+ blazer, no need to trim the shield

Re: 99 Blazer font end squeak,2 wheel drive

Thanks for all the good ideas. I do grease the front end and often too. I will check the ball joints but I do not believe that is the problem. I don't have drop spindles so at least I know thats not the problem. The Blazer is all stock and has been a great vehicle. I am going to pull both fron wheels, put the vehicle on jack stands and try to pinpoint the noise. Using a section of garden hose is a great idea. I will let you know what I find. I am taking a few days off this week to try and resolve this problem. Thanks again for all the great ideas.

Re: 99 Blazer font end squeak,2 wheel drive

My guess is either control arm bushings or the springs where they seat in the control arms.

Re: 99 Blazer font end squeak,2 wheel drive

Well after spending some time with the Blazer I was able to pinpoint the noise. Its the Control Arm Bushings. I soaked them down with WD-40 and let them sit all day. Then I used some white waterproof Grease and sprayed the entire area. Now its as quiet as can be. At some point I will probably have to change these bushings but at least I have some quiet time before I decide to do it. Thanks again for all the help and Great ideas regarding the noise.
