97 Jimmy Trans Problem

I have a 97 SLT 4x4 with the 4.6 Vortec. Last week I was backing up a hill and the trans clunked and something broke, the trans would wine and go nowhere. It would go foreword but it wouldnt shift untill like 4500RPM..... I took it to my tranny guy and he did a standard rebuild and to no avail, it still at the shop and it will not shift untill 4500 rpm. anyone else have this problem? if so what did you have to replace?
