Question 97 Jimmy shuts off randomy

I've seen the other threads about this... My symptoms seem different. I'll give it a shot.

About three weeks ago, I filled up at a local gas station and began experiencing some problems related to what I believe was water in the tank. I dumped a couple bottles of Heet to get rid of the water and stop my sputtering. It seemed to work, but since then, more problems have arisen.

Every now and again, with no rhyme or reason, my truck will shut off. Not stall. Not sputter. It just shuts off.

The speedometer and tachometer will zero out. The dummy lights come back on and I put my car in neutral and start it up right away. From this point, I will usually put it in gear and continue. Sometimes, however, the car will shut off again after shifting. It typically happens when I'm going slowly.

My dad came out to help me take a look at it (lifetime mechanic) and he's thoroughly stumped. A mutual friend suggested that it was the mass airflow sensor, but a replace of that didn't give results.

We got under the dash and disconnected the CodeAlarm remote starter unit, but that didn't do anything either.

The odd thing is that the problem tends to happen most often when I'm hitting the turn signal or putting it in gear.

This is the second MAF on the truck. We've also replaced the fuel pump within the last year (sprung for GM part).

I had a similiar problem with my '97, turned out to be the igintion switch itself. It would just cut out, at first usually at stoplights or when slowing down to turn, but then the final time was on the highway whilst I was doin' about 60mph. Just my 2 cents..
