97 jimmy need help fast!

alright so heres the deal, my dads driving out to visit me and i just got off the phone with him he told me he has two problems with his jimmy.

one-
the break peddle is very stiff and it takes allot of effort to come to a complete stop.

two-
when he sits at a " long " red light or stop the engine stalls and if thrown into park the engine starts to go into a high idle.

any help at all would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Re: 97 jimmy need help fast!

I would suspect a vacuum problem but not sure how you would test it. Is it throwing any codes for the SES light? Check for any cracked vacuum hoses or any broken/leaking connections as it's quick and free.

When my vacuum booster went out, it did everything you described except high idle in park. I had to drive it for a day or two using two feet because it would want to stall every time I stopped.

i would suspect a vacuum problem too. check the rubber line coming out of the brake booster for cracks or breaks. i dont know about the stalling issue though.
