96 Jimmy speedometer (dying?)

Second try at this post...
My 96 Jimmy has a problem with the speedometer. It seems that after I've been driving about 30 min and/or the car is warmed up, the speedometer quits working below 40mph. The transimission stops shifting as well and the ABS lamp comes on. If I put the car in 2nd and get going 40mph or above, teh speedometer comes up to the correct speed and works fine. The transmission also begins to shift correctly. If I slow down below 40mph, the speedometer drops to zeor instantly and the transmission stops shifting.

Has anyone else had this happen? Any ideas what to fix? I'm guessing either the speedometer itself or the speed sensor (if there is one??) is going bad.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Mark

Re: 96 Jimmy speedometer (dying?)

I had this problem in my '99 Jimmy. Replacing the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) fixed the problem, but only for about 6 months. I'm not sure what the permanent fix is.

Also could be the ignition switch... These are some common symptoms.
