96 Blazer, Won't Start
My parents have a 96 Blazer, on their way home one day, it just died, wouldnt start again.
I checked the fuel pressure was getting mid- 40's so I replaced the fpr, and fuel filer, have a steady 53-55psi when cranking. Pulled each plug wire and made sure I was getting spark, yep its there. Its got decently new plugs maybe 6-7k miles on them, they look good. I dont really know where to go with it now? Cranks over just fine, its getting both fuel and spark, what else would stop it from starting? Any common problems? I have a 99 Jimmy and never have had any problems with it, the CAT rattles alittle on mine but no biggy. Any help would be appreciated, I usually fix everything for them and its normally no problem, but this thing has me stumped. Later Brouwer |

Re: 96 Blazer, Won't Start
check the timing. i had one not start and the distributer was bad cause we could hold the rotor in place while cranking it.

Re: 96 Blazer, Won't Start
Well I have both spark and good fuel pressure, so that pretty much eliminates both of those, I would think. I am going to try and borrow a snap-on scanner tool from a guy in town see if that tells me anything.

Re: 96 Blazer, Won't Start
you can have spark with a bad dist. but just at the wrong time. does it backfire or even try to start

Re: 96 Blazer, Won't Start
It does seem like it wants to start sometimes, I guess after it died they were able to get it started after a while the first time, but never again. Not really sure what I am looking for I guess.

Re: 96 Blazer, Won't Start
take the cap off and see if you can turn the rotor by hand

Re: 96 Blazer, Won't Start
I got the thing running today finally but not that well. It will drive and idle, but will take no abuse.
Any quick jab to the throttle and it falls on its face, has anyone ever got a bum fpr out of the box. This is almost what it seems like to me. It now has a new fuelpump, filter, fpr, and battery. The idle is normal but in order to drive it at all you have to play with the peddle trying not to give it to much but give it just enough. This thing is tricky to make happy, any thoughts, try another fpr? Last edited by Brouwer : 04-28-2007 at 06:00 PM. |

Re: 96 Blazer, Won't Start
Got it running good now, all I did was pull it all apart again, looking to see if I messed something up, couldnt find anything, but must have missed something, cause once I got it all back together it was running smooth, seems to be fine now, I must not of tightened something good enough the first time.
Thanks for the help. |
