96 blazer wont start
I have a 96 s10 blazer that had problems for the last 2 weeks i move it once a week for home games. it would crank and crank then finally start then die then start then i romped the gas to keep it started then let off and it ran fine. this week however it wont start so i had to have it towed.
Things i've checked -Fuel pressure 50 pounds at firewall connector -spark (everytime from distributor and from spark plug wire at block. -... its getting air... Im stuck at a fuse idea right now ive checked the ones on the side panel all fine.. any suggestions? |

Re: 96 blazer wont start
my mechanic has had a good year so far with my truck. Starting problems have been:
fuel pump fuel pump wires (harness or something like that) Distributor one of the members on here said at one point it could have been a clogged cat, so he said remove the o2 sensor on the y-pipe and see if it started...hope this helps |

Re: 96 blazer wont start
Thanks for the reply but I've checked the fuel pump wires and with 50 pounds to the rail it can't be the pump every mechanic in Columbia agrees with that.
Ive got goof fire from the distributor and the wires to the plugs and i know all 6 plugs didnt foul at once. New options im going to try: Spray carb and choke cleaner in the intake and see if it starts if so its a injector problem Also i heard there is a wireing harnessm on each bank of the intake for the injectors i can check that with a test light. I have a 02 sendor out the one behind the y pipe 2nd one of left bank but do you think that will make it not start? Any more suggestions please post. |

Re: 96 blazer wont start
Check Your EGR Valve it might be Stuck Open with a piece of Carbon. This is Very Common on 4.3's I have experienced it twice now

Re: 96 blazer wont start
I replaced my spark plugs, spark plug wires, coil, fuel pump, fuel filter twice, and had a code check ran. While cleaning out the rusty gas tank and replacing the worn fuel pump did make my truck run alot better, it did nothing for my start up issues. (Gained 2 solid mpg and truck was much more responsive.)
I carried around starter fluid for a month until finally it quit. Then I was talking to a buddy who's a mechanic, and he said he's encountered the same problem about 20 times through out his career. He suggested someone for me to call. The steering column guy knew exactly what I needed when I told him my 96 S-10 wouldn't start. He came by and it took him about twenty minutes to replace the ignition switch. The truck started right up, and I haven't had a problem since. ETA: The EGR valve isn't as much of an issue with the second generation VORTEC CPI's. I'd imagine after some miles it may be able to present a problem though.
