'95 Blazer OBDI
Hey everyone, I'm trying to find a way to read codes for my 1995 Blazer. It's 4.3 CPI and I should be rebuilding it before too long. My question is, since I can't find an OBDI scanner locally, has anyone ever tried and successfully used the "paper clip" test?
It has a 16 pin (OBDII) port, but I know the system behind it is OBDI, has been called OBD 1.5. Since I'll be using the motor and what not for my truck (which is a 1999) all I will be needing is a OBDI scanner. I'm not paying the 100 dollars for the OBDII scanner because when the time comes I'm getting a serial cable and software to read/program/tweak the ecu from my laptop. I've tried 5/9 and 5/4 prongs. 4 is solid black, 5 is black with a white stripe (ground?) 9 is tan but has a thicker wire. I am afraid to try anything else. I'd hate to burn up the computer and all I want to do is pull the codes and see what it has thrown in the past before I bought it. Thanks for any help. Thought this would help some, here is the prongs and wires: 1-N/A ______ 9-Tan 2-Purple_____10-N/A 3-N/A ______ 11-N/A 4-Black_____ 12-N/A 5-Black/w___ 13-Orange 6-N/A_______14-N/A 7-N/A_______15-N/A 8-N/A_______16-L. Re: '95 Blazer OBDI
Sorry for the double post. After a few days of searching I'm finding 1991 is the cut off for the jumper test. Just seems weird that you can do it with OBDI's up to the year they used OBDII connectors. Just doesn't make sense to me, for now, why it's the same system, but you can only jump to a certain year OBDI.
