95 Blazer bit the big one.

Was waiting for this day to show its ugly face.

No power, loads of smoke, 40mph almost floored, dead on the highway, towed back to reviel it's seized. Damn 4.3 is really really stuck, too.
Starter doesn't turn it at all, manual crank only tightens the crank bolt with zero crank turn.

Could be time for craigslist or winter project? Wonder how hard it would be to put a vortec v8 in...but the whole vortec/gm thing has me erked against it for prior experiences. Counting down the days my dads silverado does this, too.

So this thing has oil spewed all over the front of the engine...fan and belt acted as an oil sling.

I cannot pin-point where it all came from (thanks for hiding EVERYTHING gm!) without dismantling some brackets, fan, etc.

I cannot assume anything I don't know already, but I want to figure out what caused this insanity.

What can cause all engine oil to get shot through the crank pulley (general area)?

This is the one with the 98 bravada front bumper on it. DAMN and it looks so cool!

Re: 95 Blazer bit the big one.

lol Its time to decide for either winter project or craigslist the s.o.b.

The silverado is 1500 I believe....the 'pretty boy' truck for its 'exciter! by trail wagons' kit, shiney buttons, color matching toneau (dumb word lol) and power all) We give my dad such a bad time with it. I think he has somewhere around 60k on it and its 97? lol geez. We have at least 3 at work with 300k+

Anyways...I haven't searched yet, but I know I'll be asking what to get for a 350 swap like 'will the 4.3 auto trans bolt up, what electrical/accessories do i need, is the harness drop-in and go with v8 ecu, etc.....search ownz me sometimes

So my uncle is trying to tell the mom its fine with new head gaskets and power punch.....umm the power punch is for cars you want to SELL and hide things from potential buyers!? or so I've heard anyways...

She thought she ruined my s10 cause it wouldnt start today.
Theres a 'ricer' pedal on the clutch and you hafta press kinda hard and she didnt. neither did my dad hahahhahahahh ownd x2.

Anyways....I do hope to make a progress thread for this bull-oni as I stated years ago "If the blazer blows it up, it's getting a 350". I'm holding my word

Re: 95 Blazer bit the big one.

So I looked through the v8 area. Found JTR has $63 mounts and a lot of headers (unsure which would suit for my application) and I saw the sticky thread on what parts are needed.....I have the older style 4.3 that has the intake tubes going to the driver side of the radiator after going through a big dumb shroud like my 2.2 s-10 has.

Kind of like this....
http://www.jagsthatrun.com/Pages/Gifs/pg16-11.jpg

It also has AC on the passenger side with the alternator on the drivers side, but 9.5 out of 10 blazers I see has the ALT on the pass side and AC on the drivers side...this won't be a problem bolting up to a 1997 vortec v8, would it? I read a few times in that thread that the accessories and all that junk on the front bolts up directly to the vortec v8 block as it is the same as a 4.3....just with 2 more cylinders.

PARTS that will be *NEEDED* -

Engine
Engine mounts (See links at bottom of thread)
Headers (See links at bottom of thread)
Electric fans
Harness and computer (if 94+ swap)

So for the headers I know I'll need help right away. I saw nothing that says specifics such as 4x4 for the headers, so I assume they'll work either way?

Wonder how hard it would be to run the coil-over-plug design 350

Re: 95 Blazer bit the big one.

Can't edit my posts at all...

Anyways is this the 'mutt' 4.3 for the transition?
This is exact to what I have and looks like no other blazer/s-10 I've seen.

Also....I cannot reply to beaker's v8 conversion on whats needed. Has anybody done the 350 into a blazer? I'd like to harass you with loads of questions as there are a few old farts here that are saying NO to the v8 on how easy it appears to be. Reading about it and doing it aren't comparable at all.

I don't know anything about V8 conversion but found this site:
http://www.s10v8.com/forum.php
I think you can find someone there who you can harass

Re: 95 Blazer bit the big one.

So the CPI stuff will bolt onto a 97 vortec 350 or do I need the 350's accessories?
Few more convincing words and I'll have a full setup and estimated the install to be around $1000-$1200 for engine+wiring+ecu, special headers, mounts and tune up stuff such as filters, fluids, sparking stuffs...

Torque converter fits the 350's flex plate, too? GM doesn't care for change much....

My main concern is I have a 4x4 with abs and all that. The JTR catalog doesn't specify for 4x4, just header sizes. Wondering if someone here knows.

That s10v8.com site is inferior to this site, by far

Also.......kind of a dumb question, plus I have yet to get an order for one at work, but where is the ECU??? Is it in front of the ABS with 3 plugs going to it in the engine bay??

What would you guys say to $800 for a vortec 350 with all accessories (extras), wiring harness, ecu and half exhaust with 168k miles?
Its the lowest miles one at work. One has 390k :O Unheard of! haha

Re: 95 Blazer bit the big one.

the v8 forum on here will probably answer most of your questions
and the ecu is located inside the dash on the 95's

Re: 95 Blazer bit the big one.

The cheapest way to run a V8 in the truck is carbureted with a 700r4 from any truck before 95, even a first gen s10 trans will work with the V8, just not the second Gens.

The only way to get the stock Auto 4.3L trans to run in the truck is to run a CPI V8, If you have a 5speed, first off your a lucky bastard and second off your golden with the V8 swap.

Yes you do have the mutt transitioning 4.3L in your truck. The Vortec CPI 4.3L engine was run from 92 - 95 and 95 not only was the first year of second gen, but the first year of the new OBDII computer system and the first year of the 4l60E trans in the S-trucks...WOO this just makes for a bastard of a truck to keep running...especially at almost 200k like mine. In 96 they continued calling the motor a Vortec but went back to the TBI setup which wound up being a more reliable motor even though it was 5hp less then the CPI.

anyway enough with the history lesson... go for the V8 and skip craigs list.. you'll be sorry when shes gone...

edit: sorry just read were letting this post die... I'm an idiot...lol
