4x4 works in Low, but no High
1996 Jimmy,4x4, the 4x4 will work in Low but if I try to put it in High, the light flashes for a few seconds and then nothing. Any ideas..?

Either the encoder motor is bad or there is a 3 port vacuum switch on the transfer case that goes bad. I would try the vacuum switch first, since it's the cheaper of the two.

Ok, im going to ressurect this post, because im having the same problem. Only my truck is a 91 S-10. When I put it in 4H it doesnt work, but 4L works like a charm. It is not the 3 pronged actuator because I checked it, and its working.
Any ideas? |

Mine did the same thing. I unhooked the battery for a while which resets it and changed the fluid in the transfer case and its been working ever since

bad encoder motor. change the motor.
the other might be bad 4x4 switch...unlikely. or a bad TCM(4x4 computer).....unlikely also. |
