4x4 front wheel bearing/hub

i have a 95 blazer 4x4. i'm pretty sure my front wheel bearing on the driver side is shot.

i have done some searching on this forum and i read my haynes manual.

I'm confused - is there a wheel bearing AND a hub bearing?

if i understand correctly, i can not simply pull the hub and replace the bearing. the book says it is not serviceable, and i have to replace the entire hub. can someone please confirm or deny this?

thanks!

Yup, with an air impact, a 34MM axle nut socket, and a large 3-jaw puller it's pretty easy, just the part is kinda pricey. I think my left one is on it's way out again too

1999 S-10 4x4 - sold
2002 S-10 ZQ8 - sold also
2002 Cavalier - the daily MPG maker
2006 Silverado Z71 ECSB - the new addition

thanks guys - more questions now:

*i have read both 34mm and 36mm sockets - which is it? (i suppose i could measure)

*does the 1995 have an ABS sensor? I'm looking at parts and I see some with and some without - also I see some are for 1983-1994 and 1997-2005...so am I looking in the wrong place?

just gotta wait til Feb 9th for my tax return to be deposited befor i order the parts....

Autozone has 2 different brands in stock. Timken at 215.99 and Valucraft at 165.99. According to their computer programmers there is only one style of hub for 95.

My 1995 blazer has ABS, but do my front hubs have any electrical connectors?

I am seeing different pictures when I shop. I do not necessary trust part descriptions based on what an eBay seller thinks they have, especially when you see the same part listed, but each listing has different vehicle years...

I just want to make sure ....

(what's up, I can't seem to post an image)

Re: 4x4 front wheel bearing/hub

so i picked up a new hub today and an $18 36mm socket. as i removed the suspect hub, ball bearings and chunks of metal began to fall out. "well there's your problem right there" I cleaned it up, greased it up, and installed the new unit. what a night and day difference.

but i noticed new sound of loose metal clicking when i would stop and go and steer. i went home and jacked all 4 wheels off the ground and had my 8year old steer the wheel for me. turns out my new front brake pads are loose. they are snug in terms of the caliper squeezing them in and out, but they are loose in the sense that they slide up and down about 1/4 inch against the rotor within the caliper. both sides do it, is that normal?

^^ hammer.

if your replacing it then getting a little violent with it won't make a difference. undot the bolts clear the drop zone, and give it a good whack where the flange attaches to the knuckle. don't pussy foot it, hit it like you mean it.

A little penetrating oil around the CV splines will go a long way also.
