Hi. I have recently had this problem in my automotive class on a s10 4x4. But the truck was a four speed. we had to drop the front differential down. there was 4 bolts and nuts holding it up once you get to it. we had to pry on it a little to lower it but the oil pan cleared in the end. for an auto trans, just take out the 3 or 4 bolts on the converter from the flywheel and remove all of the trans bolts (6 i think) and it should just about clear without doing much moving with the front diff. good luck.

Re: 4x4 engine removal help

You don't have to drop anything. I just finished 2 engine swaps, the first remopving the exhaust manifolds, and the second not removing them. Before you start, use PB Blaster on the body mount bolts, as you WILL need to raise the body. I raised mine enough to put a 2 by 4 in there (Longways). If you have any questions at all, shoot me a PM, and Ill help you out.
