4WD questions

Alright I am a truck noob. I have only owned small japanese cars, including and RX7 and most recently a Miata. I bought a 95 Blazer, and I have a few questions. Do I have to stop the truck and put it in park or neutral to put it into or out of 4WD? And also, for normal driving, should I leave the trucck in drive, or overdrive?

Re: 4WD questions

leave it on OD, D is for towing/hills/ ect. when you need more torque.
4x4, i THINK, not totattly sure but i think you dont have to stop but not a good idea to engage while moving faster than like 10mph, 4lo is for extreme needs like getting unstuck and 4hi is normal 4wd.

once again as far as the 4wd stuff im not sure on, ust what i remember seeing.

Re: 4WD questions

I have a 95 blazer 4x4 and if I need it I usually stop and put it in. Maybe roll a slight bit but basically stop. Im not sure if thats the correct way to do it but thats how I do it... I dont feel comfortable driving a descent speed and slamming the shifter down and ingaging the transfercase into four wheel drive...

Re: 4WD questions

with my 99 you can change in to 4 HI at most any speed, but in 4 LO you should be doing 3 mph or less, so basically at a stop. If you have an owner's manual, check there, it will say.

Re: 4WD questions

yeah the push button ones are shift on the fly... if i need it i usually just let off the gas.. so that the drive line isnt under torque when everything is engaging. 4lo thou you have to stop put it in neutral and then push the button..then ya can hear everything clinking and engaging
