Pull the negative battery cable off the battery and leave it off for about 10 minutes. Then hook it back up again. I have the same setup (3 button switch), and I have to do this on a regular basis. I'm told that the hi-lo actuator motor in the transfer case looses it position at times, and will not let you engage the 4wd while it's in this state. Pulling the battery cable (or the 4wd and/or trans fuse in the fuse box) and leaving it disconnected for some short period of time resets whatever it is that reads the state of the actuator motor. Again, it works for me each time.
