2001 Blazer with a combo of problems

Hey, I'm in need of information here... I've got a front diff that's making a lot of noise, and I suspect whatever is making the noise has in fact gone bad and is in need of replacement.

Considering this is my only mode of transport, I'm in need of a repair ASAP.

What I'm looking for is information on the parts contained within. I'm familiar with the process of replacing spider gears, as I've had to do it in a 97 Wrangler's rear diff, but I can't find any info other than spam on Google as to the contents of an 01 Blazer's front diff, nor have I found a place that looks reputable that would have any such contents.

I'd love to get some info to maybe do it myself if it's at all possible.

I'm also getting a p0410 code from my ODB2 reader that I'd like to take care of at some point that seems to correspond to my spotty acceleration.

The other thing that's been plaguing me for a while is the automatic transfer case liking to shift into 4 low and not shift back... on it's own. I've read a few things about it and cleaned off the corrosion on the connector, but that didn't do much so I've been looking to get that fixed too.

And now for some reason my gas gauge is messed up. Anything below a quarter of a tank and the thing registers full to empty without any consistency. It'll flash between the two while I'm driving down the highway, making my tight enough already budget tighter still because I'm wary of driving with anything less than a half a tank.

So I'm looking to repair my own Blazer, and I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty, I just need sources for parts and guides to replace the stuff, and all I'm finding is search engine spam.

make sure you front diff actuator cable is not jammed/stuck. ive seen some battery's that have leaked acid and ate into the cable and it gets stuck 1/2 engaged. sometimes the cable freezes also.

research P0410 on this site. there should be lots of posts on this already. my truck is doing this now and i need a new air pump.

theres also lots of posts on the 4wd not working. I have the same issue with my truck ...shifting into 4wd lo and getting stuck in that range. my encoder motor is bad.

fuel guage is common too...reasearch this also. id put money on the level sensor in the tank.

these are all common problems with blazers/s10's. Welcome to the site and good luck

Re: 2001 Blazer with a combo of problems

Okay, well scratch the diff being the problem, I just did a little more diagnostic on it and found my front passenger tire bearings have been shot. That's probably thanks to my mother not keeping up with regular maintenance. YAY!

So now I need a lead on bearings and runs for the thing, and prices.
Any tips on online stores, or any in the Denver Metro Area?

I also forgot to add that I have a problem with my ABS/parking break lights, or a sensor or something...

It's funny how the car decided to start falling apart right after 100k miles.

the hub being loose can cause an ABS light...been there done that (the abs sensor does not read correctly when the bearings are loose). Get a GM hub, all the Chineese ones from Autozone or Advance Auto Parts fall apart again after the 1 year warranty.

Re: 2001 Blazer with a combo of problems

Do I have to replace the entire wheel hub on an 01 4wd, or can I replace the bearings themselves instead?

I WAS looking to do this cheaply, I'm not employed somewhere that pays all too great, and I need most if not ALL of what I'm making for bills... leaving me with little to work with.

So... what's the way to do it on the cheap NOW so I can get by until I can do it RIGHT.

Re: 2001 Blazer with a combo of problems

no, not on an s-10 the whole hub needs to be replaced. i've only seen a few FWD Suzuki cars where the bearings are serviceable seperate from the hub. theres snaprings holiding the hubs together on suzuki's.

Anyway, then just get the ~$110 hub from advance (chineese one). It will be good enough, I've used them before. But will loosen up again faster then a GM hub. Remember, you get what you pay for! Also check ebay, maybe you can find a hub cheaper than the auto parts store. you have to shop around.
