2001 Blazer Idler/Pitman replacement
I was told last September when getting an oil change that I needed a new idler and pitman arm (was confirmed at another place recently), I've found the idler and pitman arms for sale online and was wondering how easy it is to do it. Now my dad has done a lot of repairs but never this one...did my sec. air injection last summer for instance. What kind of tools, other parts, and time does this require. Any help would be great; my car is shaking sometimes, fading to the left, wearing the tires unevenly, etc. I guess after I'll need an alignment. I have a 2001 Blazer 4dr.

Re: 2001 Blazer Idler/Pitman replacement
You need a fork to separate the parts. A separation fork is the only speciality tool needed. You can buy a cheap one at Harbor Freight. A large socket is needed to remove the pitman arm off the steering box. Easy job if you take your time. I did it to my 96 Jimmy. Sorry no pictures taken.

You'll need a pitman arm puller too. AutoZone rents these for free.

Re: 2001 Blazer Idler/Pitman replacement
the idler is easy, the pitman is a little tougher. most people just remove the box to change it, but you can move it around to pull it but i think its easier to pull it all the way out.
