2000 Chevy Blazer 4x4 drivetrain issue help?
Ok so here's the deal. You can check out my truck here www.myspace.com/precision_stripes. This will give you an idea of what im working with. When i shift from reverse to drive, and also when i accelerate from a stop, i get this clunk underneath. The Blazer is lowered 2". I visually inspected the u joints and they seemed ok. But when i grab the driveshaft to the rear i can move it probably about 1/4" to 1/2" in either direction, which i didn't think was too much but i can hear the noise it is making when i am driving. The truck has 72000 miles on it now, and about 50,000 when i bought it. I just got done replacing the lower ball joints and the hub bearings have also been replaced. I had an alignment done after the 2" drop and he said everything besides the ball joints were fine. I don't know if the fluids in the rearend or transfer case have ever been changed. If i should change them what is the fluid used in the transfer case? Any other suggestions would be great.
Thanks Marc |

It's your U-joints.

Where is the noise coming from? If from the engine compartment then you could have a bad motor mount. If from under the floor then it would be your u-joints.
I had a '65 Malibu that would have a clunk from accelerating, found out that the previous owner liked to do burnouts and the motor mounts are the weak link in the chain when engine torque exceeds the mounts ability to resist tearing the rubber they use to isolate engine vibration from the passenger compartment... |

Re: 2000 Chevy Blazer 4x4 drivetrain issue help?
It is definetely coming from under the truck. It probably is the stupid u-joints. Go figure as i am trying to rid the truck of any little problems so i can sell it. Well looks like one more to knock out. Thanks for your help guys. By the way does anyone know what kinda fluid i would use in the transfer case? I would like to change all the fluids as a selling points also. Thanks
