Hey Fellas..
I have a 98 Jimmy 4 door. Fuel pump took a crap and I know its in the tank. Anyone ever replace this? I have looked to forum, and can only find 1st gen blazers and 2nd gen pickups. What im looking for is not a how to, as I can figure that one on my own. Looking for more of any type of "short cuts". Like: Has anyone cut the trunk to pull it out? If so, where at? Any help would be appreicated! Thanks! |

Re: 1998 Jimmy Fuel pump
Also...
The way I diag'ed the pump is this: Bleed nipple on the steel line going to the Spider. I pushed the valve in and it released pressure. Turned the ignition on and didnt hear pump. Crank and nothing at all other then it cranking. Left ignition on, and pushed valve in.. No pressure release, no air, no fuel coming out of it. Check all relays and fuses.. Everything is A-Okay.. Symptoms: Truck just would not start. No spudder. Started whaling on the fuel tank and it worked, started right up. Today driving, engine just cut off. Dump fuel down the throttle body and it starts and then dies obviously. |

Re: 1998 Jimmy Fuel pump
There's no real shortcuts to changing a pump. you could cut the floor open but it is not worth it for the time that it would take to remove enough of the interior to get at it, then you have to worry about closing it back up.
The best tip I can give you is to get the tank emptied out the most you can so its lighter when dropping it. be careful not to break the fuel lines, disconnect them above the pump as soon as you can reach them with the tank low enough from the truck. |

Re: 1998 Jimmy Fuel pump
Just pissed, as this is the third weekend in a row I lost because this F-ER. 1st week the left front output shaft seal on the diff. 90w spewing all over the place. Then while doing that, the lower ball joint breaks. (Nice of them to rivet them in. Had to drill all four hardened rivets out. A total of 8 hours lost on Saturday of work and cleanup 2nd week a hairline crack appears on the radiator side tank. Had that repaired. 4 hours lost. Drain repair and fill... 3rd week the fuel pump. Dont know how long yet. I'll post up tomorrow night. Brought the car used, has a warranty, but none of the issues are covered. |

Re: 1998 Jimmy Fuel pump
Completed the job today. Unfortunatly i was forced to do it by myself with just a few wrenches, a flat head, pliers, and hammer.
Took my till this morning to complete it, but truck started right up after the Pump primed. |

Re: 1998 Jimmy Fuel pump
Good to hear! It's always a sign of relief to hear it work instantly. My pump went out in August and I was stuck in PA. Luckily I ran into some forum members that were nice enough to help out A LOT.
