1997 jimmy stuck in park

our jimmy is stuck in park. It will not start when you have your foot on the brake it stays in park the shifter is on the floor. one time i went out and it came out of park and started. what's up???

mine did that the other morning. turn the key in the on position and push in the button on the shifter and see if u hear a click from behing the cluster. also if ur battery aint charged enough it wont let it shift either.

It's your Ignition switch. Mine did the same thing and I just replaced it today. The way you can tell when if it will start is if all the dash lights come on. Mine would not start on occasion, usually in the morning then would be fine for the rest of the day. The last few weeks it would even die while driving.
When you get the part, make sure you get the part that connects to the key, not the ignition module in the engine compartment.

BTW, anyone know an easy way to get the rubber around the keyhole back on the cylinder?

I got it all apart and it seems that the black box under the key is were the short? is at. You can touch it and it will die or it will start.

I found the replacement at autopartauctions.com for ~$40 shipped
