1996 Blazer will not start, no spark

I have a 1996 S-10 Blazer 4x4 with about 180k miles on it. Everything was running fine until I had to replace the alternator due to a bad bearing. I bought a remanufactured one from AutoZone and installed it along with a new belt tensioner. Now my Blazer won’t start. It does turn over and I can hear the fuel pump turn on but it will not run. I checked for spark using a timing light and found that sometimes 2 or 3 plugs don’t spark. I checked for spark on the coil wire and it seems to be working fine. Could I have fried the ignition module/computer when I installed the new alternator? Could it be a bad alternator?

Thanks for the help.

Re: 1996 Blazer will not start, no spark

I checked the crank sensor and sensor wire and everything looks ok but I do not know how to test it. I just replaced the distributor cap and rotor but my Blazer still doesn't run. When I check for spark between the coil and the distributor and it seems to spark just fine. But when I check for spark between the distributor and the spark plug, sometimes there is no spark. How do I test the crank sensor? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks for your help.

alternator will not prevent the engine from running. All it does is charge the battery. Is it sparking when its supposed to (timing) ? Ive had a v6 run rough minus 2-3 cylinders, so a couple not firing wont keep it from running at all. And it ran fine right before you changed the alternator??

Re: 1996 Blazer will not start, no spark

I don’t know how or why but it runs now. I let it sit in my garage for a couple of days and it started right up. I didn’t do anything to it. Maybe moisture got into the distributor or something. Or maybe it just healed itself.
