You can either redo it yourself and MAYBE get it right or just go buy a posi... personally id go buy one. it'll be cheaper in the long run with how many people screw up their rear ends trying to do it themselves.

Re: posi rear end question

It's been a while since I looked into it but one route is a Zexel Torson(sp?) unit which was around $100 last time I checked. Only issue is it requires 88' or later axels so you would have to swap those which might require new gears. I don't know rear ends that well so I didn't look any further. I just figured if I ever did it I would get a newer year assembly and look for lower gears at the same time. Figured it would be cheaper to junk yard an entire axel than replace every thing in the one I have.

exactley... there's so many people that end up having to buy both replacement parts and new axels because they try to replace it and dont know what they're doing. And actually I'm probably gonna be buying a posi pretty soon so if any one cares I'll let you know how it goes haha

Re: posi rear end question

i went to the junkyard. in the glove box look for a g80 code. this is a posi unit. I pulled it out found a gt5 code truck and got 4.10's put them together and had 4.10 posi. If you dont know how to pull the gears then you probably should hire someone else to put them in. most times the junkyard will just cut the entire center section out and sell that to you if you ask. but i've always just pulled my own.

Re: posi rear end question

in the glove box are RPO codes. the location of individual codes changes from vehicle to vehicle depending on the options. there normally are between 4 and 6 rows and about 10 columns. I have found the code all over so you just have to look around a little. more codes the more options.

if your looking for gears
Gu2 - 2.73
GU4-3.08
GU5 - 3.23
GU6 -3.42
GT4 - 3.73
GT5 - 4.10 Just check on the pinion gear to make sure someone didnt change it.
