Parts compatibility
I have an 87 S10 pickup extended cab. in less than four years I have put over a hundred thousand on it using it as a landscaping truck, so may of my parts are practially shot. a local shop had a 91 s10 pickup extended cab with many of the parts i need. I just need doors fenders and some interier parts. But the parts guy at the local gm dealer doesn't think that they will fit. that truck has a shot engine and trans and had a minor fire that fried the harness. I guess the question is does anyone know if these parts are compatible? my truck runs and drives great i just kinda suck at body care.

Re: Parts compatibility
meh, the exterior should not be a problem, with the exceptions of the grill & lights, but that can be made to work, as far as the interior, i guess it depends on which parts, the dashes & consoles are different. the door panels are as well, but i don't see why they wouldn'nt work on yours. As long as you have the same options, PL,PW and what not...

Re: Parts compatibility

Re: Parts compatibility
I did consider a full dash swap because the interier on the donor truck is a gark gray or black and mine is red. but if I do just the seats I can just get a set od mossy oak seat covers.

Re: Parts compatibility
i think 88 is when they updated the interior to the newer style 1st gen.
im doing a full dash swap from a 89 into my 83. so many more options for the newer style dashes. but yea, anything on that truck should swap onto your truck bro. if you need the grille, get the core support too (so the grill fits properly) if you need the doors, they will fit no problem. fenders will fit as long as the box style is the same; shortbox to shortbox, it will swap anything will swap over, just depends on how involved you wanna get. |

Re: Parts compatibility
thats what ill be doing with my 83. everything about it is going to say newer 1st gen hahaa! ive already got 99% of the newer dash in my room assembled. just waiting on the main wire harness and a head unit holder, and then the dash will be ready to go in.

Re: Parts compatibility
its not overly that hard.
you have 4x 9/32" screws on top by the vents then you have 4x 10mm bolts on the bottom. the dash will come loose, pull it a bit to get behind it, and see what's holding on still. the only sizes for anything on the dash will be wither 9/32" or 10mm, with the exception on the HVAC controls, which uses like... a 6.5mm screw... i just use pliars on the little one-way washer thing that holds the cable onto the temp control. then i break off the one-way washer things from the hoses on the zone control. oh, if you take the newer style dash, you will also have to grab the peg that bolts to the firewall to support the bottom of the dash in the middle. i think you may also need all the venting... not too sure though... |

Re: Parts compatibility
oddly enough the bed is in good shape, the only thing is that my window tracks are bad and when open them without holding the back of the window they go off track. one of my fenders was hit in a parking lot, I just want to get it back the way it should be. I am just going to order the carpet kit from LMC Truck since it is only $159. I also have brand new grille and headlight bezels so I am not worried about the grille, but when he told me I could have the whole truck for $200 the doors alone are worth more.

Re: Parts compatibility
Yes pretty much every part will fit exterior wise. And Golana i belive the newer style 1st gens(new grill and such) was in 90 or 91.
