My new bed
here are some pics of the body work I'm doing to the new bed someone just gave me cause they were tired of looking at it. surface rust only and that is just in one dent. unfortunately the bed was not dent free, but who cares, it was free of rust and cost me nothing but gas in my Silverado to pick it up & a couple of Mt.Dews for buddies that helped me lift it into my truck.
![]() PIC-0040.jpg IF ANYONE KNOWS HOW TO PULL THIS BODY LINE STRAIGHT PLZ POST HERE OR SEND ME A MSG, I've tried all my options. PIC-0035.jpgPIC-0036.jpg PIC-0037.jpgPIC-0038.jpg I'll have more pics after this weekend, 3 day weekend & I'm thinking of shaving the gas door. |

Re: My new bed
dude i dont know if this will help but when i decided the flaking paint on my gm had to go i went to the local auto parts store and bought this paint remover in a rattle can it smelled like amonia but i just sprayed it on and waited at most five minutes and the paint all the way down just shriveled up and fell off right to bare steel, it was in a white can with a yellow top, i think i use 3 cans to completely strip the cab and bed amazine stuff after that i used a 2 part epoxy primer then red oxide primer(better known as redneck red paint). i suggest this cause it looks like your doing the sanding it off method which is great for small areas but the whole bed i would get a can or 2 of that stuff, i dont rememeber the product name but your local autoparts store should be able to hook you up

Re: My new bed
yea I am using a DA sander, I just need to put an inline regulator on it, but I'll look into the stripper you speak of. I'm not in a big hurry to get the bed done, I'm just taking my time and trying to do it right.

Re: My new bed
the only place the body line was sunk in was above the gas door. damn wind blew something into my bed. I was needing help with the passenger side at the tailight, I straightened the mounting bracket where the tailgate hinge bolts to. sry for the quality of the pics, I think there was a finger print on the lens. but if you are seeing something I am not be a little more specific since as you know there is more than body line. I'm gonna be working on it again this weekend.

Re: My new bed
I can not see in the blured pics what body line you need to fix. But I can see a lot of A$$holes.
For those of you that do not know, "A$$hole" is a versatle word. When a person cuts you off in traffic you don't call a woman "di*k" or a man "c*nt", ypu call them "A$$hole". Its also what you call that "dent" or "Void" you make in the paint when you hold your sander on its edge because it sands the paint easier and faster. ![]() And depending on where your dent is you may be lucky enough to be able to get behind it and pry on it with a 2x4. Maybe lightly pry while a helper taps on the other side. Or when a Uni-spotter (welds studs on to clamp a slide hammer to) would not do the job or is not availibe if you have a welder you could weld some flat steel to the area and clamp onto that and hook a slide hammer to the clamp. There was another tool I used that had flat steel with a rolled lip and a special clamp that slid onto it and could hook a slide hammer or even the frame machine to it to make pulls. |

Re: My new bed
I keep my DA flat, if u angle it like u speak off will wear the sanding disc out faster on the edge. the sanded portion on the passenger side took me an hour. the grey stripe is a factory vinyl graphic, I'm using a 40 grit disc to take it off followed by an 80grit disc. then I spray it down with primer with filler and hit it with 120grit. the drivers side needs to be hit with a file, to knock down the high spots in my filler, then either 80 or 120 grit. but that graphic is being a bitch to get off. I'll post clearer pics by the weekend.

Re: My new bed
Decals can be peeled off easy with heat. Either sunshine or a hair drier (heat gun works better). It will soften the glue and in most casses the glue will come off with the decal when pulled correctly. If not thinner will remove the glue.

Re: My new bed
Also, using a D/A sander flat on the panels helps show high and low spots.

Re: My new bed
The poster just needs lots of practice in doing it right. I can see A$$holes where there was no decal.

Re: My new bed
I see what you are talking about and it is the lighting, I used the blindman method and there was two dings above the body line but below the bed rail. A friend of mine that is a body guy is coming by to check my work, since he said he would hate to see me screw it up. by the way I love your terminology

Re: My new bed
Terminology? You mean the use of the word A$$hole? That is not mine but all body man termonology. But the explaination is mine. I wrote the word in the dust on a car and used it to explain to some students what it meant.
