Long bed conversion

I have a 1982 long bed s10 already converted to V8. What would converting it to short bed entail. More work than its worth? I really like the look of shortbed better. I am not going to be happy with longbed.

Re: Long bed conversion

sectioning the frame and probably redoing bed mounts.

and finding a short bed to put on it, or shortening your long bed. by sectioning it also

personally, i think your best bet is to search craigslist and find a rusty first gen with a shortbed thats extremely cheap. Take the frame and put your cab and front clip on it, and find a short bed for it.

Re: Long bed conversion

Buy a short bed truck that doesn't run and transplant all your V8 stuff.

i dont think they made a first gen ex cab long bed
i think the frame on the ex cab and the standard cab long bed are the same length just with different mounts. could be wrong though

Re: Long bed conversion

As far as we know they never did, but they did make a crewcab longbed so.......... you never know! This was brought up a few weeks back if I remember right, try searching through the first couple pages.

Yes, jtcfanof3, right:

http://www.s10forum.com/forum/f135/l...rt-bed-419106/
And, all i know, the driveshaft for example from the single-cab-long-bed and the ext-cab-short-bed isn´t the same length.
I bought the first one and needed the second
So i think there are more differences.

i think thats because the extended cab has an extra cross member to support the added weight below the back of the cab and it has the two piece driveshaft to allow it to come over the top of the crossmember where with the long bed there is no cross member

Re: Long bed conversion

The driveshaft of the single cab long bed is also a 2-piece ...
But both parts are shorter..

Re: Long bed conversion

Yeah I know they didnt make the long ex cab. But I cant imagine there being too much involved in doing it yourself.
